Getting to Northern Laos from Pnomh Penh?
Hi,
I'm looking to travel from North to South Laos- I know it would make more sense to get to South Laos overland from Cambodia but want to do the 4000 islands last and am booking the Gibbon Experience for my first few days. So far it seems the easiest way is to fly to Vientiane and then overland it but i'm trying not to fly too much while I'm here! Does anyone know a cheap and vaguely convenient way of doing this? I can travel from another part of Cambodia if necessary!
Secondly (sorry- being v.indecisive currently!) how long is a good amount of time for Laos- i'm budgeting for 3 weeks but want to include the gibbon ex, a few days chilling on the islands and a few days of volunteering where I can. Is 4 weeks more realistic?
Cheers!
Georgie
The roads in Cambodia and Laos are pretty bad and buses breakdown all the time. You might consider a flight from Phenom Phenn to Luang Prabang $226 one way. You better check visa at the border is only two weeks so you have to have one at the Embassy. I don't know your complete itinerary but you can take the train from HCMC in Vietnam to Hue, Dong Ha or Hanoi and cross of from Vietnam into Northern Laos
