Landlocked Laos is a country of magnificent mountain scenery, exquisitely decorated Buddhist temples and friendly, hospitable people.
Vientiane pronounced "Wieng Chan" the capital is the gateway to an almost untouched land, waiting to be explored. Located on the left bank of the Mekong River as it curves around with the central business district at the middle of the bend. It is a charming fusion of french architecture and beautiful Buddhist Temples and Vientiane's most most important monument is the imposing That Luang pagoda, a sybol of both the Buddhist religion and the Lao sovereignty. Other important sights include Wat Sisaket and Phra Kaew temple a museum housing some of the finest Buddhist Sculptures and artifacts in the country.
Just about anything made in Laos is available for purchase in Vientiane, including hill tribe crafts, jewellery, traditional fabrics and carvings.
Time has stood still if the former royal capital of Luang Prabang, a world Heritage site said to be the best preserved traditional town in South East Asia. Located at the confluence of the Mekong River and Nam Khan dominated by the former royal palace, it is a relaxed town of fine temples and friendly people surrounded by mountain scenery and a large hill called Phu Si dominates the town skyline at the upper end of the peninsular former by the two rivers. Rising early in the morning will enable you to see the morning collecting of alms by the resident monks is a magnificient sight to behold.
Pakse is located at the confluence of the Mekong and the Sedone Rivers. It is the perfect gateway to the southern region and an excellent starting point for excursions to the former royal capital of Champassak.
