Cheap Los Angeles Hotels – Tips on Budget Accommodation in the City of Angels

Los Angeles, otherwise popularly known as the "City of Angels" is renowned for its fascinating diversity which contrasts the glitz and glamour of Tinsel town and Beverly Hills with the more laid-back beaches and the magical charm of Disneyland.

Nature lovers are also presented with an opportunity for respite from busy city life with the variegated natural landscape consisting of lush forests, rolling mountain ranges and scorching deserts. Most of all, it is known as a thriving arts and culture hub where visitors cannot get enough of the diverse cultural experiences encapsulated by the iconic movie industry as well as the city's many museums and concert halls.

What better way to prepare yourself for such a diverse buffet of experiences by staying in cheap Los Angeles hotels? An excellent variety of budget accommodation choices in and around the city would ensure that you can enjoy all that the city has to offer without burning a hole in your wallet. Here are some tips regarding what you can expect from cheap Los Angeles hotels and where you can find them.

Amenities and services

The low cost accommodation choices in Los Angeles, including hotels and motels, offer a decent range of basic amenities that are sufficient for a comfortable stay. Although the exact amenities and services offered vary from hotel to hotel, you can expect air conditioning, refrigerators, televisions, microwave ovens and even value-added services such as maid and shuttle services.

Due to the warm weather experienced around the year in Los Angeles, you can also enjoy lounging in jacuzzis or taking a dip in swimming pools in many of these hotels. If you need to access the Internet to catch up with work or family and friends, many hotels offer Internet services wither in the lobby or in your room. If you will surf the net frequently in your hotel, it is advisable to save on Internet fees by choosing a hotel that does not charge Internet access by the day.

Choosing a location

While the price of a hotel is a top factor for many budget travelers, do also consider the location of your hotel. As Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis, you can save on public transport or car rental costs by being conveniently located near the destinations you are visiting.

The many districts of this huge city mean that the various tourist and business hotspots are fairly spread out; hence you may want to consult a map to determine an ideal location for your hotel. For instance, travelers on holiday who want to visit several different attractions in the city can choose a central location such as Hollywood or West Hollywood.

Hollywood hotels

Even though you may associate Hollywood with rich movie stars, the area itself is home to a good number of moderately priced budget hotels. In this popular tourist spot, you can also expect large crowds of tourists and a very accessible location which is no more than 20 minutes drive away from any area of Los Angeles, including the famous Universal Studios.

Disneyland hotels

Even though Disneyland is technically located in Anaheim in Greater Los Angeles, about 30 minutes from the downtown, it is a very popular travel stop for families on holiday in Los Angeles. Here, you can also enjoy a wide selection of hotels boasting irresistible rates. What's more, many of them are located just across the street from the theme parks.

Is Laos a safe place to travel along?

I'm planning to travel from Chiang Rai,Thailand thru Laos and visit Xishanbanna, Yunna China. Are there buses or boats available? And are they safe?

Hi,

Yes, Laos is a quite safe place to travel along. You just have to be careful when you travel, just like traveling to any other countries. You can take a bus or train from Chiang Rai to Bangkok then Bangkok to Nongkhai and when you arrive to Nongkai, you can then easily take a bus to Vientiane, Laos. I would recommend taking a train(sleeping class) from Bangkok to Nongkhai, it is about 12 hr ride and it would cost you around USD $20-30. From Nongkhai to Vientiane, Laos, it is about 30mn ride. If you need any info on Laos visit http://www.laos411.com/

Laos Country

laos country_3="laos country"
Was French Indochina a single country that eventually became Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, or was it an amalgam of?

...those three countries? Did Cambodia, for example, exist as Cambodia before 1954 (dissolution of F.I.) or was it a part of French Indochina (a single country) which later became Cambodia?
Jay- but was FI a single country that split into three regions, or was it simply a union of those three countries called French Indochina?

It was a term referred to " 5 federations " colonies under control of French administration, situated in PRESENT day Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

Those 5 federations were:

Tokin (North Vietnam)
Annam (Middle Vietnam)
*Cochinchina (South Vietnam present day)
Cambodia
Laos

*Cochinchina before Frenchs came, were part of Cambodian territory, but Vietnamese (much more compared to Cambodian) migrated from Annam and increased population dramatically and later started to dominate the region, Cambodia became weak and lost it to France, so in that sense it's a region strongly administered by France, with population of Khmer/Cambodian(natives) and Vietnamese living mixed together, that's like Cambodia half-lost the territory. Before French left, a conference was held whether give it back to Cambodia or Vietnamese people in the south that already made it their homes 300 years ago.

As a result, Cambodia lost to South Vietnam. Now there's another term called by Cambodians, "Kampuchea Krom" is refering to the region.

So it could be 4 or 5 territories.

There were also many lao states and France unified them all and you get Lao+s as present day a Laos country.

Laos Luang Prabang

laos luang prabang_4="laos luang prabang"
Where is the nearest border crossing into Thailand from Luang Prabang, Laos?

We want to travel to Chiang Mai, however there appear to be no direct buses into Thailand without us going back down to Vientiene.. Can anyone advise us? We would fly, but it is a bit too expensive for us, really.. I've heard of the Nam Hueng/Thai Li border though, is that near LP?
Thank you.

I think you girls should consider flying, it's a lot less dangerous and it's doesn't really cost that much more than going by boat along the river to the Huay Xai Laos/Chiang Khong Thailand border crossing . Then taking a bus to Chaing Rai/Chaing Mai. Also don't understand why anyone would insult you by saying your not smart enough to figure out Chaing Rai and Chaing Mai are two different cities.

Laos Vacations

Will i need a Visa to enter Thailand on vacation?

I'm going on vacation to Thailand in 3 months, will i need a Visa to enter? I'm a U.S. permanent resident with a green card. I was born in Laos. I been living in the US since 1989. this will be first time ever leaving US.

Your requirements are as a Laotian citizen not an American. As such you can enter Thailand without a visa being visa exempt for a period of 30 days. http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=249…

If you want to stay longer than 30 days you will need a visa, i.e. tourist visa which you will need to apply for at the Thai consulate in your area.

China, Vietnam mull construction of visa-free tourism zone

CHINA, VIETNAM - China and its neighbor Vietnam are considering building a visa-free tourism zone on the border of the two countries, tourism authorities said Wednesday.

The visa-free zone will include Dongxing City in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Mong Cai City in northern Vietnam, said Yu Xiaojun, deputy chief of the Guangxi's tourism bureau.

Tourists, and their vehicles, from China and Vietnam will not be required to have a visa or permit to enter the zone, he said.

The two cities have already worked out a blueprint, currently awaiting both countries' approval, Yu said, without giving a time frame.

Once given the go ahead, the project will take five to ten years to take shape, said Zhu Shengyong, Party chief of Dongxing City.

On Monday, Dongxing City completed the construction of the largest marketplace on the China-Vietnam border, which is located on the east bank of the Peilum River, facing Mong Cai.

The 51-hectare market, costing 2 billion yuan (305 million U.S. dollars), includes border trade wharfs, import and export facilities and various commodity markets.

In 2010, China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) established the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, which eliminates tariffs on 90 percent of products traded between China and ASEAN member countries.

Laos Itinerary

laos itinerary_3="laos itinerary"
Is it safe to visit Myanmar and Laos? Any itinerary suggestions? Places to visit?

I plan to fly to Thailnad, to Bangkok where i'll base this leg of my travel and get to Myanmar and/or Laos from there. Any suggestions on transportation, places to visit, tourist traps to avoid, would be appreciated. Hostels too - since im gonna be backpacking as usual, any nice but clean, cheap and safe hostels? Sorry, too many questions. Thanks. P.S. Ive been to Bangkok and the Ayutthaya temples before so it wont be my focus this time. I plan to visit Chiang Mai for a change before proceeding to Myanmar and/or Laos.

Yes, both Myanmar and Laos are safe for tourists.

In Myanmar, the high points are Yangon, Inle Lake, Bagan, and Mandalay. I recommend you plan in advance and let a travel agency (e.g. one based in Bangkok) book and arrange for you. You'll be forced to exchange USD into currency certificates upon your arrival, but you can use them to pay the Burmese travel agent (tickets, hotel).

In Laos, tourism is much more developed. You can easily venture around on your own.

The goal of this article is to educate the general public so they can get the best hotel rates and to teach those who read this article about the different types of room rates that exist in the industry. Hotel Deals New York Times Square Theses tips I present have the potential to save you several hundreds of dollars on you or your friends, and families' hotel rooms from now on.

To get the best hotel rate, tip number one should be that you ignore and blacklist using all highly advertised websites like Orbitz, Expedia, and Travelocity from obtaining your services. Once you do this you are open to more options and better deal that you can get elsewhere. These Internet agencies spend millions of dollars every year on advertising so you will hear about them and when you do, they present themselves in a magazine, commercial, or paid advertisement at the top of the search engines with their written or spoken string of brainwashing keywords they choose to advertise and target the general public with.

What these Internet travel agencies offer is an abusive and exploitative situation they control by brainwashing the uninformed that read, listen, and pay attention to their commercials. Internet agencies are not even considered true travel wholesalers according to certain industry professionals who have been in the game for 20 years or longer. The hotels are approached by the Internet agencies that do not even purchase the rooms from the hotels. Instead they propose that they will sell a certain number of rooms for the hotel with no time constraints and they are to be given rooms by the hotel at the Net Rate, which is a bulk travel wholesale amount in the industry. Travel wholesalers and consolidations have to prepay for the bulk amount of rooms they buy from the hotels so they can resell them, so why shouldn't these Internet sites have to?

Here is where the exploitative situation on the general public begins, and nobody can seem to do anything about. Once the Internet sites are given their own inventory with rooms to mark up at their control they go ballistic. They mark their prices 60% to 80% from the net rate and in some cases over 100% when you tie in all useless services charges, fees, and taxes the add on top of everything. One would think that the Internet agencies and the prices they sell would remain comparative, competitive, and would be able to back up their hyped-up keywords you read and listen to repetitively in their promotions as they feed them to the general public the through millions of dollars of advertising, but they do not.

All the hotel requires in return is the amount of the net. The hotels are fully aware of this exploitative situation that the majority general public is unaware of. The hotels do not support this, but they are simply forced into doing so because they cannot keep up the advertising dollars the Internet sites spend; otherwise they would sell every single room every day of the year by themselves. The only time you might be getting the best hotel rate when you use one of the Internet sites is when the discount price is 30% to 50% off and then the price begins to be reasonably comparable to what is being sold on the vendors website. Other than that you are being sold a bunch of keywords that are all over inflated.

The second tip is the secret to finding the best hotel rates and saving the most towards your vacation falls back to the traditional method of using a travel agent, and the key is to find one who does not charge booking, service, or transaction fees of any sort. You might wonder where all the travel agents are at these days. The reason why you do not see swinging doors to for agencies anymore is because the airlines cut commissions years ago and over 200,000 agencies who occupied business space were forced to either shut down and shut their doors and moved to the internet where they could work from home. This is a big reason why travel agents make up the largest sector of the home based business industry.

Using an industry professional it is and always will be the best way to save money on hotel rates and just about anything you buy in life. As an industry professional we operate semi-automatically because it is usually requires membership logins and passwords, along with proper industry credentials to gain access to certain databases that are filled with premier discounts. Home based travel agents have the ability to obtain numerous different rate types and specials they can offer to the general public or to their clients at such incredibly low deals on such a consistent basis. Premium deals cannot be posted to any public booking engines. They must be sold privately.

The third tip that shows you how to get the best hotel rates is to understand the different type of rates that exist. The GDS is the Global Distribution System is the standard room rate and traditional hotel inventory. These are found on the hotel website and the ones they sell over the phone at the hotel or in the reservations call center. Sometimes the reservations desk will be selling rates cheaper than the call center but they are still GDS rates in comparison. Agents use the GDS to determine how special the other rates are in their overall inventory of multiple rate types they are able to access.

There are different segments of the GDS that include traditional Standard, Rack, Promotion, Government, Military, Corporate, Senior Citizen, and my client's favorite of all, Premium rates. Premium rates are negotiated rates that hotel provides to travel agencies that reward them for their superior booking history with them. Typically the premium type will save clients 25% to 30% off from the standard GDS Rate. Promotion rates are like having to have the promotional code to receive a discount if the hotel is offering one to the general public. The rest of the GDS are self explanatory if you have the proper credentials to buy them.

The next type of rate is the most rewarding for clients. As I mentioned earlier in the first tip on how to get the best hotel rates, I defined the meaning behind a Net rate as a wholesale rate. Wholesalers and consolidators will purchase a bulk number of room's usually in large amounts from the hotel vendors and receive a low wholesale price for doing so. The same concept applies a company who sells their products to wholesale suppliers in bulk. The more purchased from the hotel, the better the chances of the consolidators receiving a lower Net rate from the hotel.

Best Hotel Finder Click here

Wholesalers then will throw a small markup on top of the Net rates so they can make a little profit and then they we resell the Net rate and distribute them back in to various hotel supplier databases so travel agents can sell them to their clients and to the general public. Net rates are special travel agent rates that are usually prepaid and nonrefundable. They must be booked at least 3 days prior to the clients' arrival date. Booking a hotel reservation using a premier and Net rate through a home based travel agent who does not charge for fees for their services is how to get the best hotel rates in the world.

Tip four explains how to make a travel agents job easier so they can find you the best hotel rates. Spend some time preparing your itinerary for your agent. They need to know the desired check in and checkout dates as well as the city you wish to stay in. Providing the zip code you want to stay in is even better so they can focus on a certain area so you can be as close to where you want to be. Include the number of rooms and number of beds you need and how many people you are traveling with.

By all means be sure to include a small list of choices you are interested in staying at. If the do not charge a fee for their services, try to be prepared them to work more efficiently for you by giving them all the correct information the first time. If you are traveling with children you will need to tell how many there are and their ages. As stated in the beginning of this article my goal is to educate the reader on how to get the best hotel rates that exist, and if you allow the industry professional to do the work for you, your results will increase tenfold with the success you receive on saving money each and every time you, or your family and friends want to go somewhere.

Travel Tips and advice from Active Travel Laos

Laos is a country that offers plenty of challenging terrain, interesting sites and activities for the adventurous. You can kayak or go boating down the Mekong, trek through jungles atop an elephant, go exploring and even rock-climbing in limestone caves, hike mountains in search of remote and ancient temple ruins or camp out in wildlife conservation parks.

Below on this Laos Country Guide is some useful travel information for visitors contemplating a trip to Laos, including suggestions on where and when to go, visa requirements, money used, information about Laos food and drink as well as a handy Travellers' Dos and Don'ts list.

Traveller Dos and Don'ts

- Do dress modestly when entering temples, museums, official buildings and government offices; no shorts or sleeveless shirts, tank tops or beach wear. Shorts that cover the thighs are acceptable everywhere else. Be clean and neat in appearance whenever possible.
- Do like the locals and keep your sense of time flexible. Expecting punctuality will often lead to frustration.
- Do remove shoes when entering temples and homes (it is convenient to wear slip-ons or sandals)
- Don't point your feet towards people or Buddha images. When sitting in a temple, keep legs together and to the side in a mermaid position.
- Do consider leaving a small donation when visiting temples.
- Don't take pictures posing with Buddha images, handle, climb or sit on them
- Don't, if you are a woman, touch monks, hand them objects, sit with or talk to them outside of temples. Any offerings need to pass through the hands of a man first.
- Do ask permission before taking pictures of people, particularly in villages outside the cities where the people may have superstitions against being photographed.
- Don't touch people or children on their heads.
- Don't lose your temper in public - speaking loudly and angrily is often counterproductive.
- Don't engage in public displays of affection.
- Do greet someone who is greeting you - by nop, handshake or a polite bow and smile - but don't offer a kiss!
- Do respect the Laos' interpersonal space - there is little physical contact or closeness between individuals who are not family.
- Don't be surprised if someone goes right past you to get to something first - Laos generally do not queue up for anything.
- Do bargain for goods in markets and shops (except where there are fixed prices) but do so with a good attitude and smile. Prices are generally not inordinately high to begin with as they may be in other Asian cities.

Vietnam on a shoestring

With places to stay along the coastal highway like the historical city of Hue with its famous royal citadel, and Hoi An, a world heritage site that sparkles of an evening with countless lanterns seeing Vietnam from the north-south highway is a great way to go.

Lying on the beach costs nothing and there are plenty of people who are happy to stay in a heritage site like Hoi An and cycle each morning to the beach. Lunch can be had on the beach for no more than a dollar or two. Of an evening, a bowl of pho (beef or chicken noodle soup) and some beers are cheap.

If your priority is budget not comfort, accommodation in a bungalow in a town like Hoi An can be found for around US$5, but for around double that you can have a nice hotel room with air-conditioning and a fridge.

In Halong Bay, a group of tourists can rent a junk to visit the bay for several hours or several days. Halong Bay is a beautiful area with 1,969 limestone islands. Visitors to Halong Bay must purchase a ticket from the Halong Bay management department, which gives the option of following one of two routes: Thien Cung Grotto, Dau Go Cave and other sites (excluding Sung Sot Cave), and Sung Sot Cave and other sites (excluding Thien Cung Grotto and Dau Go Cave). Visitors often enjoy cruising overnight on Halong Bay so they can feel the whole stunning scenery.

Cycling is an interesting way to see the streets of Hanoi, with the slow moving traffic and interesting lakes. Once in the national capital, a number of very low budget accommodations can be found. They are not all hardcore backpacker hostels, either.

Hotel guestrooms in Vietnam are quite cheap so there is no need to take dormitory style accommodation to save money. On the contrary, a single or double room in a clean hotel will probably cost one or two dollars more than a bed in a dormitory holding 10 or more people.

A lot of backpackers choose Vietnam as their Southeast Asian destination. They recommend it for its lack of crowds and persistently low prices. Even though a boom in tourism started in the 1990s, the hectic scenes of Thailand have never eventuated in Vietnam. Vietnam has a similar vibe to Laos, but is a bit larger and offers a bit more diversity.

The beaches are superb, and some of the landscapes are amazing. Few people venture further north out of Hanoi but those who do discover the delights of the Sapa region and its fascinating hill tribe peoples. In general, all parts of Vietnam are full of friendly and outgoing people but the northern regions are particularly laid back and welcoming. Motorcycle tours are another popular backpacker choice. Rentals are available in HCM City and a lot of people head north rather than exploring the Mekong Delta to the south. Conditions are ideal for motorcycle touring with sealed roads and plenty of roadside mechanics.

Lunar New Year for Vietnam travel is a very busy period and really marks the height of the backpacker year here. Prices can be a little more at this time but there are still more than enough beds and rooms to go around. Some backpackers prefer to come to Vietnam toward the middle of the year but this may conflict with the wild weather of the wet season.

Best Hotels In Laos

best hotels in laos="best hotels in laos"

Ao Nang, Thailand Two of the Best

Just less than an hour from Ao Nang are the hot springs, where you can relax in water that is more than warm, it's actually hot - between 30-40°C depending on the time of year. The hot spring-water cascades down a hillside, forming a jungle waterfall. Over the millennia the water has deposited minerals to form a series of natural bath-tubs - the perfect place to ease away aches and pains, whether they be from too much rock gymnastics or from too many years. When you get a bit too hot, simply jump into the river below to cool off.

The hot springs feed into the nearby Emerald Pool which is an ideal place to swim. The water in the pool is naturally the same colour as that in a hotel swimming-pool. A water-slide slips directly into the Emerald Pool, which is great fun for the young and also for some of the not-so-young too. This scenic getaway is more relaxed than you could imagine, simply kick back and chill – well sweat, actually.

Afterwards, maybe experience a beautiful river- and jungle-forest from the back of an elephant. The elephant camp is just 15 minutes from Ao Nang, where the natural environment provides permanent shade and abundant water for the elephants throughout the year.

The elephant trek will take you along a river running through the camp and into the rain forest at the foot of the fascinating "karst" mountains, with the sheer cliffs special to this area. Often trekkers will see monkeys and birds living in their natural habitat.

Whilst in Thailand, why not visit one of the country’s currently best three beach destinations:

Luang Prabang Flights

luang prabang flights_3="luang prabang flights"
Would you recommend a night stay in Udon Thani, or heading straight to Vientiane?

I am going to fly into Udon Thani to enter Laos via the friendship bridge early April. My flight is going to arrive approx 1pm. Would you recommend making a beeline to Vientiane or staying the night in Udon Thani, and seeing some of that town and making the trip into Laos in the morning? If I were not to stay in Udon, I would then have almost 3 days in Vientiane rather than the 2 days I was planning on staying there before moving on. Time is a little bit of a factor as I have a plane to catch 9 days later in Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai. Thanks for the input.

If you are on a short time frame, I would say go straight into Vientiane the afternoon you arrive, last time I went to Vientiane it was early morning and the Friendship bridge checkpoint was packed with people going into Laos, maybe the lines are shorter in the afternoon.
