Tubing Laos

Tubing in Laos (Vang Vieng, Vientiane province)

Traveling to Laos in July, people who have been; please answer!?

I'm going to Laos for a week in July and I need some info:
- I want to go tubing so i'm def going to viet vang (spelling?) but where else should I visit?
- Any recomendations on accomodation? Nice youth hostels etc.
- I'm flying out of Hong Kong, a flight with no connections is looking like 1000 USD, which seems a little high, any other suggestions/stop over information?
- Any other info would also be appreciated. Thanks!

You only have a week and that's your first problem sadly, we spent a week alone in Vang Vieng.

tubing i can tell you, depending on the type of person you are is AMAZING a LOT of drinking and if ur into it A LOT of drugs. the experience alone is amazing, its a hub for young people just a buzzing amazing place!!!

but as you want to do other things ill tell, the captial Vientien .... isnt worth a visit, although having said that if you can get tehre u'll be able to pick up a bargain, the markets as usual in asian countries are great, im wearing my $2 Calvin Klien undies and $10 jeans as i speak.

recommendations on accomdation, i dont really reccomment hostels, its cheap enough you can get ur own room for $20 a night EASILY so unless you want to meet people do that. although you can get a room then start a conversation easily at the various restauratns that cater for tourists.

my last bit of advice, get a lonely planet book, you can get these in laos for a lot cheaper (a rip off copy) but yeah.

enjoy.

usions With Backpacker Travel Insurance

By

You have decided pack your bag and travel the world, planning on which countries to go to and what to do in every spare minute you have.

When researching all of this, travel insurance will be very low on your list but could be one of the most important things you need to get right for your trip. Why you ask? With insurance companies notorious for trying to get out of paying you what you believe is covered you will be surprised that many things will not actually be covered in a basic policy.

Want to work when you are away, then most companies do not cover for this and if they do it is usually just for office work and everything else will not be covered. Although this is not always the case some will allow manual work but you will be servilely limited on what you can do and it usually always has to be at ground level. A common exclusion when working is personal liability, so if you were to in an extreme case to lose a limb or to die then you will receive no money from the insurance company.

I find that where most people can have most problems is with adventure sports. A lot of companies say that they cover over 50 sports as standard; whilst this is true have a good read as you will soon find that what you want to do might not be covered. A lot of backpackers like to learn how to scuba dive on their trip and this is usually covered with most travel insurance, but if you are thinking about bungee jumping or tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos you might need to upgrade your sports cover.

All travel insurance policies have exclusions that they do not have to pay out on if you are intoxicated or on drugs so be careful when claiming, going back to tubing in Laos you will most likely be drunk and be doing dangerous activities with rope swings into the river.

All travel insurance companies have a key facts document which lists all exclusions and their terms and conditions. This is the most important document to look through before you purchase your backpackers travel insurance. You could be in for a surprise with what you see; some companies state that if you travel to Australia you have to register with medi-care when you arrive otherwise you will not be covered for your medical expenses. This is only in the small print of the policy document so most people will not see this and will be in for a big bill and shock when you are told that you are not covered and have to cover the cost yourself.

I hope this document helps you in your preparation for your trip and your purchase of your backpacker travel insurance. Remember cheapest is not always the best when you are travelling the work by yourself in countries where the health care system might not be up to western standards.

I have worked as tour leader since 1998 and found that many tourists chose wrong tours because most foreign sale persons do not really know Vietnam destinations. Vang Vieng

vang vieng="vang vieng"
How can I get from either Siam Reap or Sihanoukville Cambodia to Vang Vieng Laos?

I can't seem to find any bus or train info online or in LP...please help, trying to nail down the last leg of the trip. I really do not want to fly and time is not really a factor. Thanks

You are stuck with one of the biggest dilemmas of the Asian circuit. Getting from Cambodia to Lao is either time consuming or expensive. If you don't have the time your only choice is the plane. and its going to cost you about $200 what with ticket and the $45 dollar visa.
Other wise you are looking at 24 to 48 hours on the bus from Cambodia to lao.
There is no train from Cambodia and it will take you a day to get into Thailand and another to take the train to Lao. So two days again
So those are your choices. 2 days of uncomfortable travel or spend the money and be there in and hour and 1/2.
Its a drag but that's how it is!

Laos River Tubing

laos river tubing="laos river tubing"
river tubing in Laos - anyone have any good info?

1. best place to try this : Vang Vieng?
2. best tubing business to use?
3. best guesthouse to stay (price, location)?

Hey, the best place to tube in Laos, and most popular is in Vang Vieng. I am sure you've heard how it' done...basically you get up in the morning, they pick you up, drop you at the top of the river, and you spend the day slowly drifting about and drinking beer at various stops.

Sorry, I don't know what's the best business to use. I only stayed for a day there, and it was to visit the caves.

Try Vang Vieng Guest House, that's literally what it's called. THe proprietors there also own a bridge that links to many of the popular caves.

Enjoy tubing.
