Travel in Viet Nam with Haivenu Tour

Vietnam's Destination

This section of the web site contains an overview of the many attractions that Vietnam has to offer, designed with tourism and travel in Vietnam in mind. Where comments and opinions are expressed, they are a combination of our subjective views and feedback from former customers.

Vietnam
In general, the best way to enjoy most places in Vietnam is to travel between urban centres and use them as a base to explore the areas in and around them. Long distances and the country's limited transport infrastructure makes a linear tour impractical if visitors want to experience more than one or two of Vietnam's regions.

The North

Hanoi
Vietnam's capital city, Hanoi, is just over half the size of its southern counterpart. Like Ho Chi Minh City, it is expanding. It's more stately and calmer than its boisterous offspring, with tree-lined boulevards and large colonial villas, many of which are now embassies or government buildings, and its prices are more reasonable. It is surrounded by many ‘craft villages', each specialising in a specific traditional craft.

Hai Phong
Vietnam's third city is Hai Phong, with just under two million people. Also in the north, about a hundred kilometres from Hanoi, it is the country's main seaport. Hai Phong is close to Cat Ba Island and is an entry point to Ha Long Bay

Ha Long City
Ha Long City has a population is around 200,000. It is a comparatively recent amalgamation of a major tourist area with a heavy industrial mining town: initially uneasy bedfellows, the two elements are now fusing. Apart from being the main access point for Ha Long Bay, it is also a centre for Quang Ninh Province and the northeast.

Dien Bien Phu and Sa Pa
These two small towns are the main centres for the northwest mountains.

The Centre

Da Nang
Da Nang, in central Vietnam, is an expanding port and industrial area: its population is now well over a million. It is an attractive centre for three World Heritage areas: Hue Imperial City, Hoi An Ancient Town and the My Son Sanctuary, as well as being very close to some excellent coastal resorts.

Hue
Hue is relatively small – less than a third of a million - but enjoys the status of being the ancient Imperial City (and the income from armies of tourists!). It is also a centre for visits to Quang Tri Province and the Demilitarized Zone.

Nha Trang
Nha Trang, Vietnam's premier resort with a population of about 320,000, is an attractive destination for beach lovers and divers. It is also the main access point to the Central Highlands from the coast.

Dalat
On the southern end of the central highland plateau, the temperate climate of Dalat attracts many Vietnamese tourists to swell its 150,000 population. Other small towns further north, such as Buon Ma Thuot, are also important centres for visitors to the Central Highlands.

The South

Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon, is by far the largest urban centre in Vietnam. It has a population of around five and a half million, a figure that is expanding rapidly as poor people migrate to the wealth of the metropolis. Saigon is the country's main commercial area: brash, noisy and, in Vietnamese terms, expensive. People seldom seem to be indifferent about it – they either love or hate the place.

Can Tho
Can Tho is a town of about 300,000 people and is regarded as the centre for the Mekong Delta area.

Luang Prabang

luang prabang_3="luang prabang"

Show your Big Heart by Helping Luang Prabang; while letting this Magnificent Place Enthrall You

Laos is perhaps one of the world's least travelled countries. Meaning? It is a land so untouched by the outside world that the word exotic rings true here. Laos is a land where beautiful natural scenes dominate, guaranteeing a true natural and tropical wonderland. It is a country where its lifestyles remain intact, despite today's rapidly changing and modern world. The country is a land with a unique and beautiful culture, presented in its original grandeur. However, Laos also needs some help. Make a positive impact while on holiday, put a smile on some faces and help preserve some of the country's natural beauties.

Be a Luang Prabang citizen the moment you enter this marvelous city. Revel in the UNESCO Heritage Town's temples, colonial flair, tree-lined boulevards and cleanliness. Head to the riverside temple of Wat Prabat Tai for a sunset game of petanque with the locals, one of their favorite pastimes.

The town is best explored by bike, and that is exactly what you will be doing. And not just a regular bike, an electric-bike will be used, an eco-friendly and fun way to see the city's main sites as well as some hidden areas. You'll also visit non-profit organizations such as the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Center and Ock Pop Tock and get a taste of local life with a visit to the Phousy Market and a traditional Lao lunch.

Immerse yourself in the local culture today by partaking in the early morning Buddhist alms procession and an evening Animist and Pre-Buddhist Baci ceremony. You'll definitely learn about the country's culture and religion via these enlightening and interesting cultural events.

Let that magical Laos nature enthrall you, and there's no better place to do that than at Kuang Si Falls. Swim in its cool pools, take a refreshing trek around the waterfall or enjoy a picnic lunch nearby. While here, visit a rescue center for sunbears where you will learn more about efforts to preserve this unique animal.

Pak Ou Caves is certainly a place you have never experienced before. This cave is filled with thousands of lacquered and gold Buddha images, placed here by the religion's followers throughout the years.

Later on, help out some children at a local village. How? You will donate some Lao-language books to the underprivileged kids there. Your action will ensure a brighter future for these children and the warm and appreciative smiles of the villagers will leave you with fond memories of your responsible holiday in Laos.

If you have a big heart and would like to make a difference while on holiday in Southeast Asia, then take a look at our responsible travel tours. Working with local charities, we'll also showcase the beauty of the region, from a culturally and naturally standpoint. Southeast Asia will have a special place in your heart, that's for sure.

How to travel between Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia?

I will be traveling to Thailand soon and, after a few weeks there, I hope to visit Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Does anyone know the best way to get around? How reliable are the rail links etc?

Hi,
From Thailand to Laos: You can take a train or bus from Bangkok to Nongkhai(12hrs ride) for $20 and up then from Nongkhai you can take a bus to Vientiane, Laos for a few dollars(45mns to 1hr ride).
From Laos to Vietnam and Cambodia: There are tour buses from Vientiane, Laos to Vietname and Cambodia, but I am not sure about the prices. It can’t be much though. More info about Laos, you can check out http://www.laos411.com/

Laos Asia

laos asia_3="laos asia"
Is it safe to ride a motorcycle in SE Asia?

I would really like to rent a motorbike and drive around Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand. I don't know how to ride a motorcycle but if it's easy enough to move like that around South East Asia I will take some classes and hopefully I'll be able to travel independently.

How about rented motorcycle quality/safety?
Safety on roads/quality on roads?

Is it OK for a foreigner (female) to do anything like that?

In Thailand , the traffict in city like Bangkok is very congested, therefore riding a motorcylce is definitely a better option to move around. Roads in Thailand are in fairly good condition, therefore it will make riding a motorbike much easier. In Vietnam, motorbikes dominate the roads simply because they are more affordable than cars. Thousands of motorbikes squeeze through whatever space available on the roads and their adherence to the traffic rules is low. Roads in Vietnam are generally fine especially in bigger cities but get worse in the outskirts. In Laos and Cambodia, there is less traffic on the road than Thailand and Vietnam but those driving vehicles , either cars or motorbikes seldom observe traffic rules. There are a lot of honking on the roads, those bolder drivers / riders will get to their destinations faster but not necessary safer. As Laos and Cambodia are both very poor countries, the less than desirable road condition is expected. The roads in these countries are filled with potholes and pose great danger to motorbike riders.

I would not suggest you to ride the motorbike on your own. Even experience riders are not advised to do that in these places where roads condition are not that good and most people do not adhere to traffic rules, besides all the road signs are in the native languages. It wouldn't be safe and easy for you to do so.

Instead, most foreigners rent a motorbike ( with the "driver" ) to get them around. Even that, many are having the "adventurous rides" of their lives. Since you are a female, i suggest you go to a reputable vehicle renting company and rent a motorbike together with the "driver". It is not that expensive. However if you really wanted to be totally independent, perhaps you can only do it in Thailand where conditions of the roads are generally better and that too only in small towns or island resorts. Do not venture into the cities on your own.

Five Surefire Tips for Enticing Bed and Breakfast Brochures

You know for yourself that your bed and breakfast will be a haven for every traveler. But in your brochures, are you letting people know? In case you’re not sure, then don’t worry – here are five surefire tips to get more guests booking in your bed and breakfast inn.

Attract More Guests with Your Bed and Breakfast Brochures

  • Include photos of rooms and outdoor scenery. Create a tantalizing atmosphere of your bed and breakfast inn through your brochures with beautiful pictures. Show photos of your guest rooms ready to welcome newcomers warmly, and add photos of breathtaking scenery guests can see from their windows.

  • Mention the minimum; put the rest on your website. If you want to save on brochure printing or have information about your bed and breakfast that can change easily, this is the best rule of thumb to work with when designing your brochure. This way you will also have more space to tickle your reader’s imagination about what your bed and breakfast services have to offer.

  • Inviting, descriptive brochure copy sells! Avoid passive sentences, and feed as many lively descriptions about your bed and breakfast as you can so your reader can almost feel they’re in the place themselves. Appeal to the five senses, and create compelling images for your readers without going overboard.

  • Add quick contact information for tourist spots nearby. If tourists have to make reservations in advance for tourist spots near your inn, it may be best to add contact information about these spots so your guests can make the needed arrangements themselves. This way they will also get a more concrete idea about what sights and experiences they are in for if they take the plunge and schedule a reservation at your inn.

  • Print on quality brochures for the best effect! Your brochure’s photos and copy are designed to create an irresistible bed and breakfast allure; don’t let low quality printing ruin the whole effect! Look up some local Los Angeles printing services that are well known for their affordable yet quality printing, and conveniently set up your brochure printing online. Done right, your bed and breakfast brochures will make the rounds with all kinds of travelers, letting you book more and more guests throughout the year!

Jaypee Greens - Pioneered The Concept Of Integrated Townships

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step” Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu said.

Jaypee Greens under the flagship of India’s foremost infrastructural group, Jaypee Group has accomplished massive milestones with each step taken forward strategically and intelligently. The company believes passion to be the single fastest way to spur oneself to immense success. A can–do- attitude and a spirit of cooperation has propelled Jaypee Greens to achieve its goals and accelerate the path towards correct action.

Jaypee Greens has pioneered the concept of integrated townships, and carrying this forward as a trend, the company has established itself as one the largest urban real estate developers with three massive projects under implementation in NCR. The total area under development is around 4100 acres of land. For Jaypee greens, new launches and the tremendous response from the market do make a landmark but not a complete success story. The story would be complete once the customers get timely possession of their property and Jaypee Greens is putting forth its best efforts to meet its construction timelines, with 3 crore sq ft of residential estate already under construction.

Spread over 1162 acres, Wishtown, Noida is India’s largest township with an 18+9 hole Graham Cooke golf facility combined with world class residences, thematic gardens, neighborhood social clubs, outdoor sports facilities, town center, spiritual center, schools, hospital, commercial areas. After the huge success of Aman, where 3300 apartments were sold in a day, Jaypee Greens once again is proud to speak about its another breakthrough, Kensington Park- Residential Plots, where 1400 residential plots again sold out on one day. This overwhelming response has propelled the company to come up with Kensington Park Apartments, another set of residential apartments and plots to meet the demands of its enthusiastic set of customers.

Our latest venture Jaypee Greens Sports City is diverse, progressive, vital community spread over 2500 acres and comprises of motor racing track & other sports facilities, commercial zone, educational facilities, medical facilities and numerous recreational options along with various thematic residential districts such as the lake district etc. The company has also started with the construction of Jaypee Integrated Sports City– a cornerstone project of Jaypee Greens. Jaypee Sports City would also have country’s first ever International Motor Racing tack for which the construction is under rapid progress.

Driven by core values of loyalty, integrity and commitment to customers, Jaypee Greens has built a strong customer base of 18000 families in just two years of its business. The company values its customers and the rapid growing client base with countless satisfied people reflect the strong foundation that Jaypee Greens as a company possesses.

The maiden project of Jaypee Group- Jaypee Greens Noida has been awarded “Best Golf Development- India”, by CNBC Asia Pacific property awards 2008, the highest possible accolade in the international property arena, Jaypee Greens has already confirmed its position amongst the finest golf-centric property developer in Asia. Along with this, the Sun Court Apartment at Jaypee Greens Greater Noida has also been honored with the “Best Apartments – India”, again by CNBC Asia Pacific property awards 2008. The project also boasts of its International Sports Complex-India’s largest private multi-discipline sports facility.

What is the timeframe for voiding a contract pertaining to EFT debit from bank account?

I made a reservation online for a hotel room in Las Vegas with my VISA debit card. I cancelled the reservation within 48 hrs of the ACH hitting my account. The vendor states that my credit owed, minus the standard cancellation fee, would take 30 business days yet the vendor's site states that they will match and credit (at their discretion) any Best Price Guarantee that is found, within 7-10 business days once a reservation is booked online. Why can't the vendor process my credit within the same amount of time as their "Best Price Guarantee"? The vendor gets his cancellation fee but is allowed up to 30 days to return my credit while collecting interest on my funds in the vendor's account over a 30 day period of time? Isn't that considered "Double-dipping"?

Yep a lot of places will charge you immediatly for charges but getting money back from them is like pulling teeth sometimes.

If this is stated in their refund policy then there is not much you can do but wait as they did disclose it before you made the purchase. They usually stick this in pages of terms that no one reads but it is probably in there somewhere.

In the future, I would read their cancellation and refund policies. I have seen sites that do this and have acually sent messages to them stating that I did not use their site because of a specific policy.

There are a lot of sites that will credit any refunds in a resonable amount of time, that is a few days not a few weeks.

If you had the choice of going to Thailand,Laos or Cambodia for 3 weeks, which woud you choose and why? Thanks ?

It's just that I have the chance to go to one of these countries for 3 weeks and can't decide which to go to?! I know, such worries...lol.

Was thinking of going to Udon Thani or Chiang Mai in Thailand or Vientiane in Laos or Phnom Penh (possibly Siem Reap too) in Cambodia? Any ideas?

The biggest determining factor is of course money, the costs in each of these places!

Laos & Cambodia can be combined for a 3 week holiday, and certainly worth it,Thailand has become a bit expensive.

Hotel Reservations In

hotel reservations in="hotel reservations in"
Anyone who has worked in hotel reservations please help!?

How can I get hotel reservations to a hotel that has been sold out? I need something more than begging or asking if anyone's cancelled? Anything tricky I can use? I have a big bonus depending on it! Any ideas??

There are a few different ways to secure reservations to sold out hotels. The first solution is an industry insider - if anyone in your company (or just anyone you know) is an elite level frequent stayer (i.e., Hilton HHonors Diamond, Priority Club Platinum, etc) then there typically is a 24-72 hour guaranteed availability.

For example, I am a Hilton HHonors Diamond member. IF I call for a reservation at a hotel and the hotel is sold out, I will still get a reservation there. IF and ONLY IF I call at least 24 hours in advance of the arrival date. There are a few exceptions, however this works 95% of the time.

The other option is constantly try booking the reservation on the hotels website. I'm sure you have already tried this, but it will often work if you just keep trying. I know it makes no sense, but when a hotel is sold out they often "move around" reservations to various different room types, etc. You will often "accidentally" catch them in the process and your reservation will confirm.

As a side note: If you get a confirmation number and the reservation is guaranteed, the hotel MUST honor it. If the guest shows up and the hotel is "oversold" then the General Manager must then pay for a night at a compareable hotel, and typically transportation/one long distance phone call.

I'm not sure this answer really helps you much, but hopefully you'll get your room - and your big bonus! :-) Feel free to e-mail with any questions!

Negative Effects Tourism Environment

negative effects tourism environment="negative effects tourism environment"

Environmental Protection and Ecotourism

Local authorities in popular tourist destinations are beginning to take matters of environmental protection into their own hands. Governments and nonprofit organizations are banding together in the fight against pollution. Efforts to sustain tourism to favourite destinations without harmful effects to the local environment, as well as culture and social interactions, are the main focus for the most recent campaigns.

Mallorca Promotes Environmental Protection and Tourism

In order to maintain sustainable tourism in the Balearic Islands, Mallorca - often known as Majorca - is promoting a campaign that promotes environmental protection. Environment friendly tourism in heavily visited areas is important for the overall atmosphere of tourist areas.

Island tourist locations tend to take more abuse from tourism than most other areas. The new campaign, developed by Palma's Tourism Institute, IMTUR, is called 'Palma, Responsible Tourism.' The World Tourism Organization also supports the initiative. The primary goal is to encourage tourists to be more environmentally responsible in Palma.

A few of the programme's objectives are:

* To educate tourists and residents on water consumption.

* Promote Palma and Mallorca as a prime tourism destination that places emphasis on protecting the environment and the Mediterranean.

* Encourage environmentally safe tourism once tourists arrive.

* Decrease carbon levels and air pollution from vehicles.

* Increase energy awareness and introduce energy conservation practices.

This isn't a comprehensive list, only examples of what tourists can expect from the 'Palma, Responsible Tourism' campaign. The programme includes incentives, activities, competitions and a cycling event available to all interested tourists. Palma Town Hall will donate 1 euro to the campaign for every tourist that takes part in activities related to the campaign.

Other Environment Friendly Vacation Locations

Palma's campaign is new to the Balearic Islands. The general idea, however, is not new to other tourist destinations around the world. Whether it is referred to as 'environment friendly tourism' or 'ecotourism' the end result is the same.

The general idea is to introduce tourists to recycling and other activities that will help sustain tourism in their favourite destinations. In protecting their favorite vacation spots, tourists also help to protect neighbouring rivers, streams, wildlife and communities from potential harm caused by pollution.

Similar campaigns exist in the Caribbean. One development firm was quoted as saying sustainability is 'finding the right balance between the need for development and the need for environmental protection.'

Overdevelopment of a destination can lead to a drastic downfall of the quality of vacations available to tourists. Locally owned shops and fisheries on the Caribbean Islands have joined the efforts to help combat the negative effects of mass tourism.

Resorts and hotels on Malta promote environment friendly tourism by setting a high standard for their guests and employees. Water and energy conservation are very high on the list, as are reuse and recycling.

Employees and guests are urged to turn off lights in rooms that aren't being used and to ensure water has been used conservatively and turned off when not in use. Recycling bins are placed in hotel rooms, and guests are encouraged to use only environment friendly, recyclable containers.

Environment Friendly Hotels and Resorts

Each passing year sees more hotels and resorts join the fight against pollution. Environmental agencies have begun offering initiatives and awards to hotels and resorts that go the extra mile to protect the environment. The very environment they seek to protect is the one that draws more tourists to their location year after year.

Several U.S. ski resorts have earned awards from environmental protection agencies recognizing the work they put into protecting the environment and local forests. Their efforts include using environment friendly cleaning products and recyclable take-out boxes, cups and flatware, as well as encouraging reuse of linens and towels and composting kitchen scraps with wood chips for use in landscaping. In all, eight U.S. ski resorts were recognized by Clif Bar & Company for environmental excellence.

Saigon Tourist

saigon tourist="saigon tourist"

Saigon - Paris Of The East

Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon, as it was known in olden times is unmistakably one of those preferred holiday destinations in Asia. This city has a special place among the tourist destinations as it has a unique property of evoking feeling of that of exotic lands and also the charms of old world. Here the blend of an old structure with the newer ones can be very effectively viewed. The streets of this unique city are lined up by large corporate offices along with those older French colonial architectural beauties. Thus it is unmistakably Saigon where one could well see this blend. Here one could find a group of dynamic people who are very much busy with their business activities, along with those saffron-robed monks who collect alms for their living. Thus, although the city is busy with international business schedules, the charm and beauty of ancient Asia is very well retained.

The Vietnamese took over the city from the hamlet of Cambodian rulers and was later made the capital of French colony of Cochin-China. The current name is after its great communist leader Ho Chi Minh and is thus a tribute to the great man. It has got a population of about 9 million and is therefore the largest in Vietnam. It was during the colonial period that the city was renovated with streets that are broad along with colonial architecture that have passed the test of time to last even to now. The city has got a tropical humid climate with average humidity of about 75%. There are two distinct seasons- the rainy season from May to November and the dry months from December to April. The dry season is the best time to visit the city as the humidity level will be much lower.

There are lots of tourist attractions in the city. Among them is the History Museum. A huge collection of artifacts are arranged or housed in this museum. There is also a water puppet theatre inside the museum and along with this a gift shop too. Yet another great museum is the War Remnants Museum. It is famous for the exhibit of American War Crimes. Yet another place to mention is the Reunification Palace. There is a huge party room, a gambling room, a movie theatre and lavish reception halls. Many pagodas can be found around the city and among these the Nghia An Hoi Quan is the best. The City Hall is yet another architectural marvel that is a must see one. It is a best example for the colonial architecture of the French. Notre Dame Cathedral is also another of those structures. The Saigon River adds to the beauty of the city.

A lot of water parks are there in order to cool you from the heat. There are Dame Sen water Park and Saigon Water Park to get added up in the list. A lot others are also there in the list. Shopping is yet another feature of this place. Lots of handicraft items and tourist souvenirs are available for shopping. The bargaining skills of people can be very much handful here. Dong Khai and Le Thanh Ton are among the best shopping areas here. The services to the city are made through Tan Son Nhat airport, which is the largest in Vietnam. Here the immigration rules are much stricter and hence lot of time is needed for the purpose. Cach Mang Thang Tam station is the nearest railway station to the city center. Again taxi is the best option to go through the city. Motorbike taxis are also there which will be much cheaper than others. Renting a bike is also a good way to explore the beauty of the city.

Unmistakably Saigon is known as the Paris of the East. In the area there are 50 small restaurants that are excellent to go for. There are also many number of internet centers along with glossary and general store. There are traditional cultural shows at the opera house and night clubs situated which adds to the beauty of the city. Vung Tau is a peninsular on the cost and is the nearest seaside to that of Saigon. There is an extra ordinary post office, exotic murals, old colonial hotels, and red-brick cathedral etc which are all worth watching. Thus Saigon or Shanghai or Ho Chi Minh is a strong contender among tourist destinations in Asia.

What Is Green Tourism

what is green tourism="what is green tourism"

Green Tourism in the Lake District

Taking your holiday in the UK is the first step. A carbon emissions produced when not flying to a destination is very low and even lower should a form of public transport be taken. The facts are quite astonishing. For example travelling by train from London to Windermere will restrict your CO2 emissions to just 0.07 tonnes. Compare this with 2 return flights from Manchester to Malaga and your CO2 emissions will increase to 1.12 tonnes.

The Virgin West Coast Mainline is perfect for visiting Windermere. Whilst in Windermere there are endless activities and a huge number of Windermere hotels to stay in. The West Coast Mainline stops at Oxenholme – The Lake District station where a direct connection to Windermere can be found. Many environmentally conscious hotels in Windermere will collect a guest from the station to encourage this greener method of travelling.

The Lake District is seeing an increase in its tourism related businesses taking a more serious look at their energy consumption and resulting carbon footprint. The larger Windermere hotels and leisure complexes obviously have the most to do due to many having heated swimming pools, saunas, and Jacuzzis but the smaller hotels in the Lake District can still do a lot for the environment. There is help in the form of CBEN, the Cumbria Business Environment Network and supporting tourism partnerships. CBEN provide an awards system in grades of bronze, silver and gold. They send out an environmental consultant who assesses what the environmental practices are at present and then they develop an Environment Management System (EMS). This is then adhered to and shows the commitment that business has to the environment. These awards are especially good for tourism related businesses in the Lake District as a high number of visitors to the Lake District want to conserve its beauty and take green tourism seriously.

A national accreditation for business environmental practices is the ISO14001. The ISO14001 proves a company’s environmental credentials which in this day and age enhances the corporate image and actually saves the company or organisation money by reducing energy consumption. This requires far more investigation and costs more to achieve but for the larger Lake District hotels, it is a very worthwhile procedure.

MGALLERY adds two new boutique properties in Thailand

THAILAND - MGallery is proud to announce the addition of two distinctive resorts to the collection of unique hotels in Thailand – Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai and Veranda Resort & Spa Hua Hin-Cha Am.

These two properties take the number of MGallery properties in Thailand to three, joining the Vie Hotel Bangkok, suggesting that more travelers to the country are seeking out unique experiences.

MGallery is Accor's label of upscale hotels. Each hotel within the collection is of individualistic personality and charm, and are categorised under one of the four themes - Vision, Design, History and Location.

"We are delighted to add these two properties to the MGallery Collection," says Oswald Pichler, Vice President of Accor Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. "The two Veranda resorts will accommodate guests seeking unique and personalised experiences in Thailand's most well-known retreat destinations: Chiang Mai in the north and Hua Hin - Cha Am on the gulf of Thailand."

Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai

Categorised under the "location" theme, Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai nestles in a serene setting amongst the lush greenery of the Chiang Mai's highlands. Each of the 69 spacious and deluxe rooms and villas has a large balcony overlooking a stunning view of the breathtaking landscape and an ambiance which blends the northern traditional arts with the plush comfort of a contemporary hotel.

Surasak Wongkiatthaworn, Managing Director of Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai says, "Amidst the beautiful mountains and in a cultural setting of Thailand's north where cool and calm is the norm, guests can find that their stay here becomes a very soothing experience where time slows and they can eventually feel themselves as one with nature."

The resort's design derives from its natural surroundings while highlighting the northern contemporary styles through the detail of its architecture. On the edge of the resort, a brickwork replica of Chiang Mai's ancient city walls isolates the resort from the outside world creating a realm of its own.

Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai delivers its cuisine through prolific gastronomic venues – The Higher Room offers all day modern international and Thai cuisine dining with an outdoor al fresco with views of the pool and valley; while Rabiang Cha serving Lanna Thai cuisine with a contemporary twist in a traditional northern rice granary setting.

The resort's leisure offer are comprehensive with a full-fledge relaxation facility which includes the Veranda Spa in private cottages with large sunken bath, steam shower and treatment beds; an infinity edged swimming pool on the roof terrace with stunning views of the mountains; conference facilities for groups up to 250 people with venues for smaller meetings/functions; a fitness centre; and a kid's club.

Throughout the years, the outer bounds of Chiang Mai where the hotel is located, remains a somnolent area where guests can enjoy the peace and quiet while just a short distance from the animated, vibrant city.

Veranda Resort & Spa Hua Hin-Cha Am

Veranda Resort & Spa Hua Hin-Cha Am is a sumptuous resort in a calm setting located on the beachfront situated in between two famous beach destinations on the Gulf of Thailand: Hua Hin and Cha Am. With 118 rooms and villas, this peaceful retreat combines contemporary Asian designs with a fun and stylish touch that reflects an atmosphere of its tranquil surroundings, thus categorized under MGallery's "design" theme.

"We pay attention to every detail of this hip and cool resort to unify the spectacular oriental style décor with the chic, yet cozy atmosphere of this secluded sanctuary promising guests a true experience of relaxation," says Panit Boonyaratvej, Resort Manager of Veranda Resort & Spa Hua Hin-Cha Am.

The Dining Room, the hotel's fine dining restaurant serves a wide variety of Western and Thai cuisines and lies within the heart of the hotel; while I Sea Restaurant spills into the outdoor al fresco and offers a wide selection of Thai and seafood dishes.

Guests can pamper themselves trying its impressive signature spa treatments and body exfoliations in the resort's Veranda Spa, swim in its free-form swimming pool by the beach, or enjoying a good book while sunbathing under the sun on the resort's sun decks.

Just two hours drive from Bangkok, Hua Hin-Cha Am have been favorite hideaways for Thai royalty and aristocrats for decades. Once humble fishing villages, both are now mature beach destinations that remain naturally attractive with peaceful allure.

Thailand Retreats: Sedhapura Villa by Tohsang

Sedhpura Villa, a firm favourite of ZiZ Asia and A Member of the Isan Boutique Collection

Sedhapura, a mesmerizing and remote luxury villa retreat on Thailand’s less-travelled Northeastern frontier where the Mekong River carves the boundary separating Thailand with Southern Laos.  A mystical region steeped in history, legends and mythology, the peacefulness and serenity intoxicates the very air one breathes.

Exhausted from the violence of its course through Tibet, the Mekong River receives a docile stimulant at its confluence with the Mun (Moon) River before it meanders timelessly from Thailand into Southern Laos, charting its course to the lands of Angkor, the Tonle Sap and onwards to the end of its journey in Vietnam and the South China Sea.

There are few places that truly epitomize the ultimate escape but Sefhapura is certainly one of them; void of crowds, as far removed from the tourist trail as can be and as naturally luxurious as it is resplendent.  Not just a confluence of rivers but also of nations, cultures and cuisine.

Located adjacent to the border settlement of Woen Buk Village in the province of Ubon Ratchathani, Thais intermingle with Laotians, Khmer and Vietnamese, an eclectic mix that has produced a unique culinary fusion, a product of evolution and a paradise for Asia food enthusiasts, gourmets and culinary anthropologists.

Sedhapura distils stress, evaporates the routinely mundane and revitalizes ones soul.  There is something surreally majestic about the place, the forest-carpeted mountains, the Mighty Mekong and, not least, the rarefied surroundings of the villas themselves; the peacefulness, the romance, the serenity.

The Villas

Created and managed by the Tohsang Hotel Group, Sedhapura consists of 4 villas, three of which are bungalows and the fourth a duplex.  Each villa features privacy . . . as well as a King-sized bed, private dining, a 4m x 3m private plunge pool and all have unadulterated views over the Mekong and the distant verdantly green mountains of Southern Laos.

Contemporary Thai in style, clean, white-washed walls are framed with natural wooden beams.  White fabric cascades from the ceilings to floor-level to shroud daybeds beneath them.  The interiors provide the perfect balance of furnishings whilst avoiding unnecessary excess and combine the same earthy wooden colours with traditional Isaan floor cushions.  Gentle up-lighting echoes the subtleties of nature found beyond the four walls.  The focal point is of course the terrace where hours can be whiled away absorbing the views.

An intimate family-run business, the villas are in close proximity to the Tohsang Khongjiam Resort where you have use of the facilities including its restaurants and meeting rooms.  Alternatively nurture the reclusive ambiance of your villa and order an alfresco, riverside candlelit dinner on the terrace from where you can absorb the kaleidoscope of technicolor dancing over the Mekong’s evening sheen.

Events

Understandably, Sedhapura is a paradise for Honeymooners looking to totally escape the maddening crowds and retreat into their own private ideal.  Conjoined with the Tohsang Khongjiam Resort and you are also presented with an idyllically romantic riverside wedding venue where all your needs are met at this, the place that is first to witness the sun rising each day in Thailand.

Corporate Retreats are also well catered for at Sedhapura where you can host informal meetings within your villa or opt for one of three meeting rooms and facilities provided at the Tohsang Khongjiam Resort:

The Kanadol Meeting Room – 12m x 15m and can accommodate 120 guests in theatre style seating.

The Club House – 9m x 10m and can accommodate 30 guests in theatre style seating.

The Garden Terrace Meeting Room – 8m x 6m and can accommodate 10 guests in theatre style seating.

Activities

Explore Southern Laos - Trips can easily be made across the border into Laos.  It’s not often that tours offer the opportunity for time travel as well but this is one of them. The border crossing delivers you into Champasak Province of which the capital is Pakse.  To do this thoroughly you should really allocate at least 3 days and 2 nights.

Spa & Massage – Enhance the tranquillity of Sedhapura with a traditional Thai Massage or Spa Treatment.  Choose from a menu of Spa Treatments that include Body contour, Anti-Stress and Sensual Spa to achieve a deep calm. Do experience the Thai massage on the floating sundeck.  It’s not to be missed.

Dining - Ubon Ratchanthani is renowned for its food and connoisseurs of Southeast Asian cuisine will be in their seventh heaven.  Find out what happens when Thai food collides with Khmer, Vietnamese and Laos cuisine; it is like a little rave going on in your mouth.  Dining at Sedhapura is a treat with a full Thai and International menu and if you can tear yourself away from the views, the candlelit table and terrace a trip into Ubon to indulge your taste buds at one of the many restaurants and bars is certainly worthwhile.

Thai Cooking Course - Monopolise the Chef at Sedhapura for a private Thai cooking course.  As our ditty “You can visit as a tourist but its best visited as an enthusiast” and this is particularly true where Thai Cooking is concerned.  There is nothing quite like learning to cook a Thai menu on holiday to impress your friends upon your return.

Biking – Exploring by bicycle or hired motorcycle gives you the ultimate freedom to take things at your own pace. Visit villages, national parks, waterfalls, temples, museums and much, much more.

Nature & Landscape Photography - The area is an Eden for photographic enthusiasts particularly if nature and landscape photography is your speciality.  From sunrise to sunset the photographic opportunities are limitless. Just fall out of bed and start shooting.  You cant really fail, the backdrops are everywhere.

Trekking & Hiking - Trekkers are simply spoilt for choice with all the national parks in the vicinity. Trek to viewpoints, waterfalls, flower meadows, rock paintings and caves and remote forest Temples.  The trails are generally well defined and the going not overly challenging but if you want to get up to the most spectacular viewpoints a certain level of fitness is clearly required.

Mekong Cruise - Take a river cruise to see the confluence of the Mekong and Mun Rivers which create what locals refer to as the “Coloured River”.  The river cruise can take you to visit the Weon Beak Village, and Kaeng Tana National Park.

Fishing - Take to the waters of the Mighty Mekong for a days fishing.  A Panama hat, a parasol, a picnic, some beers maybe and you have the ingredients to create a wonderfully memorable day afloat on the Mekong.  Whether or not you catch a fish becomes almost immaterial.

Numerous attractions exist in Ubon Ratchathani and we have only highlighted a few of the activities that you could indulge in.  Temple visit, prehistoric rock paintings, waterfalls and museums are certainly items to add to the list.

Ubon Ratchathani

Ubon Ratchathani is the eastern most province in Thailand’s less travelled North eastern Isaan region. Home to a range of impressive national parks including Pha Taem National Park which is famous for its numerous prehistoric rock drawings, waterfalls and verdant forests, the Mekong River also flows through it.  The capital of the province is its namesake; City of the Lotus.

Despite being completely below Thailand’s mass tourism radar the area yields much to do with plenty of exploring to be had.  Admittedly the advent of the Chong Mek / Vang Tao border crossing has magnetized a few more independent travellers to Ubon but the area is still perceived as a one-night stop-over as opposed to a destination in its own right which is bitter sweet; sweet where retreatists are concerned.

Previously the province of Ubon Ratchathani was a pilgrimage for remote meditation, individuals removing themselves for civilisation to retreat at a forest Wat (Temple) for weeks or even months and in the same way that these forest Wats are still highly regarded, the meditative aura hangs like a veil over what has to be one of the loveliest and most serene parts of the world.

Sorties into Champasak Province in Southern Laos and to the town of Pakse make for intriguing adventure.  While Ubon certainly lacks the modern polished sophistication of the world leading cities, Southern Laos really is like entering a time warp and, sadly, now an infinitely more authentic experience than Luang Prabang.

When to Go

For the Retreatist there is no right or wrong time to escape.  The calling is all that is required.  As far as seasons are concerned though, the rainy season runs from May to October, the cool season from October to January and the hot season from February to May.  The cool season arrives earlier in Ubon Ratchathani than any other Thai Province because of its geographical location.

One of the most magical times to visit Ubon Ratchathani though is in August when Pha Taem National Park explodes into a dazzling floral palette of colour and waterfalls such as Ru and Sang Chen are in full flow.

Ubon Ratchathani also hosts the annual candle festival in July which consists of a parade of huge, oversized and intricately carved candles.  Very popular with Thais and if you are at Sedhapura in July the Candle Festival is definitely worth a peek.

If you would like to plan an outdoor wedding at Sedhapura any time during the cool season would be best. Guests may suffer during outdoor weddings in the hot season and sweating during the ceremony is arguably a little premature.

How Long to Go for

How long do you need?  Nature lovers and trekkers would be reluctant to leave after a week knowing that there is still much that they haven’t seen or done.  For those venturing to Sedhapura for a Spa Retreat you will doubtless intensify your treatments to beat the anxiety of having to return to normality and pure Retreatists will soon become Spa Retreatists for the very same reasons.

Getting There

The easiest way to reach Sedhapura is by plane from Bangkok.  Other means include overnight train or car but in both cases the journey is long and fairly arduous.  Ubon Ratchathani is currently serviced by Thai Airways, Air Asia and Nok Air with approximately five flights a day.

Laos Weather

laos weather_3="laos weather"
Where is the best place to travel in Asia during November?

A friend and I are thinking of taking a 2-3 week trip in November for her 30th birthday and are undecided on where to go. We have been through Laos and Thailand so are not too keen to visit there again (although Laos was beautiful!). We would like somewhere with nice weather, beaches, nightlife and beautiful scenery . . . not too many requirements hey? :-) Any suggestions?

Hi , please log in to source below as Malaysia has the very things you want. Good food, entertainment, shopping, lovely weather, culture, sandy white beaches, exotic scuba diving sites and much more.
