Hotel Reservations In

Anyone who has worked in hotel reservations please help!?

How can I get hotel reservations to a hotel that has been sold out? I need something more than begging or asking if anyone's cancelled? Anything tricky I can use? I have a big bonus depending on it! Any ideas??

There are a few different ways to secure reservations to sold out hotels. The first solution is an industry insider - if anyone in your company (or just anyone you know) is an elite level frequent stayer (i.e., Hilton HHonors Diamond, Priority Club Platinum, etc) then there typically is a 24-72 hour guaranteed availability.

For example, I am a Hilton HHonors Diamond member. IF I call for a reservation at a hotel and the hotel is sold out, I will still get a reservation there. IF and ONLY IF I call at least 24 hours in advance of the arrival date. There are a few exceptions, however this works 95% of the time.

The other option is constantly try booking the reservation on the hotels website. I'm sure you have already tried this, but it will often work if you just keep trying. I know it makes no sense, but when a hotel is sold out they often "move around" reservations to various different room types, etc. You will often "accidentally" catch them in the process and your reservation will confirm.

As a side note: If you get a confirmation number and the reservation is guaranteed, the hotel MUST honor it. If the guest shows up and the hotel is "oversold" then the General Manager must then pay for a night at a compareable hotel, and typically transportation/one long distance phone call.

I'm not sure this answer really helps you much, but hopefully you'll get your room - and your big bonus! :-) Feel free to e-mail with any questions!
