Biking & Cruising in Hue Duration

Overview

Get a closer look into the history and culture of Hue. We cruise to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the best know religious sites in the city. Then cycle to Phu Mong, take in a traditional garden house and craft houses, enjoy a serene life here.

Day 1:  Biking Cruising in Hue ( Lunch )

We will cycle from your hotel to the Wharf and then take a short boat ride on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the best know Buddhist sites in the city. Afterwards we cycle to Hue's garden-houses, that are part of Hue's cultural legacy, present since the Nguyen Dynasty built its capital there over 200 years ago. Like other garden houses in Hue, the Phu Mong garden house typically has two main areas: the wooded house and the surrounding garden, designed according to geomancy, and their owners' spiritual life and skilfulness. On the way cycling back, we stop at Ngoc Son temple, visit more Hue garden house with introduction by the house's owner, then have tea, cakes and ginger jam. Visit to Hue's Dong Ba Market and lesser known Bao Vinh, the older commercial area of Hue. Have a Lunch at Vuon Y Thao garden house restaurant before coming back to the hotel.

Mekong River Cruise Laos

mekong river cruise laos="mekong river cruise laos"

The Mekong River; Weaving through and Forging the Southeast Asia we all Know and Love

The Mekong River is one of the most if not the most important river in all of Southeast Asia. Citizens of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam who live along the banks are quite dependent of the river, either for its fish, and of course its waters. It is the world's 10th longest river, spanning a length of about 4,900 kilometers, draining an area of 795,000 square kilometers of water and discharging 475 cubic kilometers of water annually.

Archeologists have estimated that there were settlements living in and around the Mekong dating as far back as 2100 BCE. Early civilizations included the Funan (1st century AD), who were then proceeded by the Chenla (5th century AD). The Angkor Empire then took over and influenced most of the area until the Kingdom of Siam and the North Vietnamese followed suit.

The Mekong has quite an interesting start point. Contrary to the warm tropical nature of Southeast Asia, the river actually originated from the cold and snowy Himalayas in the Tibetan Plateau.  From here, it runs through the Yunan Province in China before making its way to Myanmar, then forming a border between it, Thailand and Laos before cutting through Cambodia and finally emptying out in the Mekong Delta and South China Sea in Southern Vietnam.

Along the way, the Mekong has her fair share of waterfalls and rapids. Now, that may be good for those looking for a scenic and relaxing sport, but it is quite the opposite for travelers. Those falls have earned the Mekong as one of the toughest rivers to navigate on.

The Mekong Basin may well be one of the world's richest areas in terms of biodiversity, perhaps even richer than the Amazon! Estimates have about 20,000 plant species, 430 different types of mammals, 1200 birds, 800 reptiles and amphibians and more than 1200 species of fish swimming in its waters, some of which are giants. The Giant River Carp, which can grow as long as 1.5 meters and weigh as much as 70 kilograms, makes its home here. Also included are the 4 meter wingspan 500 kilogram Mekong Freshwater Stingray and the renowned Mekong Giant Catfish, known to grow as long as 3 meters and weigh 300 kilograms! The rare Irrawaddy Dolphin and Siamese Crocodile also call the Mekong River home.

Perhaps you'd like to live some of that Mekong magic? You certainly can! In Cambodia, experience the famed countryside and rural atmosphere along its banks as you cruise along the Mekong. Spend the night on the Mekong Delta in luxury and discover amazing waterways hidden amongst vibrant tropical fruit gardens, bustling floating markets that offer a cornucopia of items and acres of emerald rice fields that make this region of Southern Vietnam so magical.

The Ultimate in Exotic Destinations: Vietnam and Cambodia

The exotic destination of Vietnam lies in Southeast Asia's center, bordering China in the north, Laos and Kampuchea in the West, and the Pacific Ocean in the east. The entire country stretches from the Ha Tuyen province in the north to the Minh Hai province in the south, and includes thousands of enticing offshore islands and striking archipelagos.
Archeologists date Vietnam's genesis to approximately 300,000 years ago. Official history, however, dates Vietnam's beginnings to about 4,000 years ago. Although the French governed Vietnam from 1858-1954, the name "Vietnam" conjures images of the war with the United States, which ended more than twenty years ago. Today, Vietnam welcomes tourists from many nations to its lush, green interior, where striking cultural sights and sounds abound. With tropical temperatures year round and the welcoming smiles of its people, the country is a popular destination for tourists seeking an off the beaten track" journey that artfully blends the physical with the spiritual.
Cambodia, bordering the Gulf of Thailand to the south, Thailand to the east, Vietnam to the West, and Laos to the North, was founded from 802 to 1431 A.D., stretching during its peak as far as the Thailand-Burma Border in the west and Wat Phou of Laos in the north. Ancient Khmer rulers enforced unity among and enhanced prosperity, leaving behind exceptional monuments such as Angkor Wat and numerous unique sculptures and artifacts, as well as a people who pride themselves on showcasing their country's stunning contrasts.
The most popular Vietnam and Cambodian attractions include:
Vietnam Mount Fan Si Pan: the highest mountain in Indo-China, Fan Si Pan is located in the Lào Cai province in Northwest Vietnam. Dubbed "the Roof of Indochina", Fan Si Pan also boasts 2,024 floral varieties and 327 faunal species. Climbing Fan Si Pan is exhilarating and physical, a true once-in-a-lifetime experience not soon forgotten.
Angkor Wat: the best-preserved temple at Angkor, Cambodia, and the only temple to remain a significant religious center. A prime example of classical style Khmer architectural style, Angkor Wat has drawn high praise for the harmony of its overall design and the overarching sense of spirituality visitors experience.
Angkor Thom: One of the last and most enduring capital cities of the Khmer empire, Angkor Thom was established in the late twelfth century by king Jayavarman VII and is revered for its large scale construction, widespread use of special weatherized bricks known as laterite, and the "naga", or cobra-carrying giant monsters on its towers.
Preah Khan: Another temple at Angkor, Cambodia, Preah Khan was also built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII and has remained largely unrestored, with vast trees and vegetation growing among its ruins. According to Wikipedia, "Since 1991, the site has been maintained by the World Monuments Fund. It has continued the cautious approach to restoration, believing that to go further would involve too much guesswork, and prefers to respect the ruined nature of the temple." Preah Khan is a huge and interesting monastic complex that draws visitors from across the globe.
Neak Pean, an artificial island with a Buddhist temple also built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, was meant to represent a mythical lake in the Himalayas known as  Anavatapta, where the waters were believed to cure all manner of illness. Neak Pean was originally designed as one of several hospitals built by the king. Based on the ancient Hindu belief of balance, four pools connect, representing water, earth, fire and wind, with a central water source in the middle. Stepping into these pools was thought to balance the bather's elements and cure disease. A statue of the god Bahala stands guard to prevent drowning.
East Mebon: A 10th century temple in Angkor, East Mebon was built during the reign of King Rajendravarman and stands today at the center of the now dry East Baray reservoir, dedicated to Shiva, the Hindu god, and honoring the parents of the king. Exquisitely sculptured, this temple includes freestanding stone elephants, two meters high, at the corners and religious scenes of revered gods elegantly carved on lintels.
Most travelers will never have the opportunity to see these wondrous sites. But now, 25 fortunate participants can partake in a two-week expedition that will literally change their lives forever. Noble-Manhattan Coaching, one of Europe's longest established coach training companies dedicated to transforming lives and helping others achieve their goals presents Noble-Quest. Founded by Noble-Manhattan CEO Gerard O'Donovan, Noble-Quest is offering this exotic Southeast Asian adventure during October 19th - 31st, 2009. The quest will raise money for a charitable business, The Noble Foundation, committed to helping men and women become self-sufficient through micro-financing, and offers participants an unusual glimpse into the Vietnamese and Cambodian cultures, and the extraordinary opportunity to walk amongst ancient structures and bask in the beauty of these distant lands. Joining the group is Scott Milway, trained by the Deepak Chopra organization in Primordial Sound Meditation and ready to lead daily meditations for the group.

Loyalty Fulfillment - Chile Vessel Cruise Promotions

The Vessel Cruise is huge business in Chile. This South American country however wishes more people to enjoy this unique holiday lifestyle. The main reason why some tourists are avoiding this amazing destination is due to the strict gambling laws. Realizing this government has given indication that they might be interested in relaxing strictly no gambling or casino activity onboard the vessels. The main reason of this change of heart is said to be the possibility of many vessel to windup their businesses as not much interest has been shown by tourists lately.

The fuel cost incentives are also planned for the businesses aiming for the tourism vessels too. The total worth of Chilean tourism industry is worth more then 300 million but these days this is working at level of just twenty percent of that. The high port cost has been the main reason that vessels have been protesting for more then a year now. This is the reason most of the non Chilean vessels are avoiding this and taking Argentina as their deporting point for the Antarctica tours.

The once busy port of Punta Arenas waits for the return of the flock of tourist that created the whole boom during early 2006. According to the new law, the change might give more freedom to operate the casinos in the Chilean waters also. In her neighbors Chile was the only country to have such strict laws; now that even Cuba is now embracing the international business the competition for the tourist dollar share is quite tough.

Not only the laws are changing, there are huge incentives on offer as well. The vessel operators are being offered forty percent tax rebate, the incentives on easy loans range more then eighty percent also. Congress anticipates that these soft loans can be just the thing for the companies to start investing again in vessels too.

The proposed incentives also includes rebate on the towing charges on the harbors as well. Investment is yet another issue in the Vessel industry. The main problem which the government and especially the deputy minister Jacqueline Plass is trying to face is that they are aiming these incentives at the industry rather then tourists. To bring back the tourists from Costa Rico and Laos the industry needs to show everyone what this country has to offer.

The elimination of Loyalty Fulfillment is also on the cards that might happen in the next few weeks too. Aiming to attract investors, the plans are there to give the rebate on the mandatory VAT. This incentive is not only offered to the local but international firms as well. This way the foreign flagged vessels are also likely to bring businesses to the Chilean territory as well.

A Vietnam Travel Guide For Cruising The Exotic Mekong River

Vietnam is famous for its two big areas growing rice (known as rice baskets among Vietnamese). The one in the North is the Red River Delta, and the other in the South is the Mekong Delta. The Mekong Delta is formed from the mighty Mekong River which originated from the Tibetan highland plateau 2,800 miles away. The river makes its way through China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and South Vietnam before flowing into the sea. The part of the river running through Vietnam is tore into nine branches and named Cuu Long by Vietnamese locals, which means Nine Dragons to describe the nine branches that terminate the flow of this great river as it is absorbed by the sea.

The locals in Mekong delta live right on the edge of the rivers or canals. Their home structures varied from place to place as they are built conveniently from whatever materials found. Fisheries can be found right under those homes. It can be said that life in the delta is tightly woven with its rivers with floating markets while other activities and businesses are conducted on its banks.

Visiting the Mekong delta, tourists can stop at major cities and towns such as Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh, Ben Tre, My Tho, Chau Doc, Sa Dec, Long Xuyen and Can Tho… Aside from the cities, there are many national parks and nature reserves in the area. Some of the names are Con Dao national park, Lung Ngoc Hoang nature reserve, Mui Ca Mau national park, Nui Cam nature reserve, Phu Quoc national park, Thanh Phu nature reserve, Tram Chim national, etc…

Taking a Mekong river cruise is the best way to experience the local life on the river as well as to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. There are many cruise operator offering cruising services for tourists. Some among the popular names are The Jayavarman, Indochine, Le Cochichine, Douce Mekong, Mekong Queen, Mekong Melody…

The usual itinerary for a Mekong trip is around 5-7 days. The trip often starts from Ho Chi Minh City, and then goes down along the Tien River or Hau River. For longer itineraries, a few tourist destinations in Cambodia or Laos can be included in the routes.
