Laos Tradition

laos tradition="laos tradition"
Would Buddhism be the strongest cultural bond between mainland SE Asia and "East Asia proper"?

Most East Asian countries have a lot of Buddhist tradition. China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, etc. So does mainland SE asia like Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos. And some South Asian places like Nepal, Bhutan too.

I'm not sure. I've spent so much time in Asia, but the Buddhist schools find a cross-cultural link through Dalai Lama when it comes to Buddhism. If you attend a teaching of Dalai Lama in Asia (especially in India in a place like Bodhgaya, place of Buddha's enlightenment). Otherwise they stay to themselves.... kind of like different traditions of Christianity.
When thinking about this I actually thought that the most common and basic cultural bond may be RICE... just rice. It goes beyond Buddhism.
