advice needed- backpacking Southeast Asia in two weeks- HELP!?
A friend and I are planning to see some of SEA while we're on college break. Budgetwise- we seem to only have enough for about two weeks. We're taking a train from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Bangkok, Thailand, and from there, want to work our way to Saigon, where we'll fly back to Kuala Lumpur. We only have enough budgeted for that one flight back, and are planning to bus/train/boat it the rest of the way. We'd definitely like to see Siem Reap, and posssibly Laos and Myanmar. (unless it's not very different from cambodia) Which countries and cities are worth a stop and which are worth a miss? Anhd how much time? We're pretty much up for everything- bars and clubs and museums and historical sites, but nothing high-end. Thanks for reading!
From Bangkok you could go North to Chiang Mai in Thailand and from there go to Luang Prabang in Laos. Then head south to Vang Vieng then Siem Reap, Phnom Penh till Saigon.
To go to Chiang Mai from Bangkok you can take the sleep train or bus, which will save you one night stay as you will be sleeping on board.
Buses leave from Bangkok Northern bus station, trains leave from Hua Lampong station.
Good luck
