Laos Honeymoon

Awakened senses, ana mandara

I went to Thuan An beach on a sunny, windy day, a short break after busy and tired working days and a long rainy season in Hue. It was so wonderful to relax at the Ana Mandara Resort and Spa. All my senses were awakened, the smell of sea breezes, the intense sound of waves, the sight of blue sea, the texture of wooden furniture and the taste of lemongrass, ginger flavored tea made me feel closer to nature.

Mr. Viet, the manager, took me on a tour of the resort. There were various types of rooms, Deluxe, Duplex Suites, Beach Villas and the most luxurious and spacious of these, the Pool Villas fronting the beach. It was a wide open space of sky and sea, an ideal place for the solitary traveler, the runaway, romance seeker, honeymooners or families. Besides the outdoors, there is an option to stay in for a cooking class.  For this, the resort provides vegetables and herbs from its own organic garden in which cilantro, cabbage, aubergines and other varieties were grown.  Clusters of bamboo around the resort gave me a sense of familiarity, reminding me of the traditional countryside of Vietnam.

In the early morning, instead of my usual morning run, I chose the gym for an intense workout. Later I took in a session at the spa where I was pampered. There was the sauna, a full body massage with the invigorating scent of lemongrass, a commonly used ingredient in Vietnamese cuisine and health therapies.  Feeling refreshed and beautiful, I wandered to the gift shop where I found an attractive variety of high quality, handcrafted embroidered bags and jewelry. They were fashionable and reasonably priced.

Someone I met there said that she wouldn't need to go anywhere else to find peace. She had a place of deep silence right in her room with its little garden and its bathtub opened to the sky. I couldn't but agree with her.
