The 6 Factors That Make A Travel Destination ‘Hot’
Like many walks of life, the secrets of what makes a holiday destination stand out from all others are the subject of intense debate. Using the benefit of its members’ years of experience in finding people the right holiday, the Association of British Travel Agents, or ABTA, has just produced a list of six prerequisites which all top holiday locations have in common.
It says that a resort is usually successful if it can meet at least two of these following six requirements, but that the more of these boxes a destination can tick, the more popular it is likely to be.
Safety. ABTA considers this the number one core requirement. But it also points out that countries emerging from troubled times have often seen a release of pent up demand as destinations migrate from the news sections into the travel ones. Examples of this include Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Croatia.
Accessibility. How easy it is to get to a destination is a major influencing factor on demand. New routes help boost competition and lower prices, which in turn attracts more visitors. Border issues can increase the difficulty of getting into a country and dampen demand if visas are expensive or difficult to obtain. And for many, the sheer time it takes to get to a destination matters. Despite all the doom-laden prophecies, 79 per cent of us still holiday in Europe.
Infrastructure. Good, new or improved infrastructure for holidaymakers often lifts a resort’s fortunes. Destinations which have invested in hotel upgrading, such as Spain have broadened their appeal. ABTA says that emerging destinations usually have efficient airports and roads and decent hotels.
Affordability. “Bargains, but more specifically value, become prime considerations in a recession,” says ABTA. So those destinations providing high standards at low cost have thrived. Poor exchange rates have also hit the standing of some destinations, Meanwhile, the Association is also fearful of the possible effects of the UK’s Air Passenger Duty on international travel, both out and inbound.
Weather. Still a major consideration, if often the only one of Britons tired of our unpredictable summer conditions. Although other issues are clearly factors, the weather still seems the ultimate arbiter of our holiday choices.
The ‘x-factor’. Some of the above factors will go by the wayside if there’s an ‘x-factor’ to a destination, the sort of attraction which gives it ‘holiday of a lifetime’ status. Such things can often simply be a case of ‘right place, right time’. This is precisely why ABTA expected the spotlight for 2010 to fall on New York with the release of Sex And The City 2, Orlando, following the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and for football to demonstrate its global appeal with crowds flocking to South Africa to see the continent’s first World Cup tournament.
With many different events on the horizon finding cheap holidays is relatively easy. Deals on cheap Greece holidays are popular so find all the deals online.
